Improve Every Moment With Your Horse Using This Simple Technique

January 9, 2013 by Stephanie Krahl

True Horsemanship

Stephanie and Ransom

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed that you freeze on the spot? Your heart starts to race and although you can move physically, you feel trapped?

This can happen in a number of situations. The most common is when you’re learning something new. Another common scenario is when you’re overloaded with information – when there are so many choices and conflicting views, coming from every direction.

Revealed: How to Deepen Your Relationship With Your Horse

How to Deepen Your Relationship with Your Horse

Ransom, Stephanie and Faith

Picture this – you walk out to halter your horse. She doesn’t offer to come to you so you decide to try the “bucket of grain” bribe technique.

As you shake the bucket to make a little noise, your horse looks up, pointing her ears toward you. Then she goes about her business – ignoring you and continuing to eat grass. You think to yourself, “I’ve seen people get their horse to run to them. How come mine won’t do that? I have a bucket of grain. Isn’t that enough?”

March 9, 2012 by Stephanie Krahl

Trim your own horseStephanie Krahl trimming her horse Ransom

Just imagine how wonderful it would be if you had the knowledge and physical ability to trim your own barefoot horse.

You think to yourself, “I’m athletic, smart, great at research, and my horse loves me, so why not?”

Now – what on earth would cause the thought of trimming your own horse to enter your mind in the first place?

I can think of several reasons.  Does this scenario sound familiar?

As a naturally minded individual, you decide to find a natural hoof care professional for your equine companion.  You’ve done your research and your expectations are high for hiring a professional.

Are You Feeding Your Horse These 4 ‘Healthy’ – Yet Dangerous – Foods?

Monsteranto – Hatch One Today

Have you ever watched the movie I Am Legend with Will Smith?  The story is about a “cure” for cancer that later resulted in radical long term effects that almost knocked out the human race as we know it today.

At first, the treatment completely cures a patient’s cancer.  That sounds great doesn’t it?  Not so great if horrible mutations developed after the fact.

I walked away from that movie with a sick feeling in my stomach, because it’s not that far fetched from what could become a reality.

Something I keep in mind is that although science is powerful and beneficial, Mother Nature will always reign – one way or another.  Man tends to easily forget that small detail.

How to Win Your Horse’s Heart

May 27, 2011 by Stephanie Krahl

Ransom's Kind Eye
Have you ever attended an equine event and witnessed something between a horse and her human that just didn’t seem right?

Even if a horse appears to be obedient, there may still be those subtle signs of unhappiness she exhibits that are typically overlooked.

For example, maybe the spark in the horse’s eye is gone and she has a dull, depressed energy about her.  There may be a feeling of fear that radiates through her body, exhibiting tension.  Maybe she swishes her tail while riding or pins her ears.

To Blanket Your Horse or Not to Blanket … That Is the Question

December 16, 2010 by Stephanie Krahl

Horse Blanketing

A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right.”  ~ Thomas Paine (Introduction to Common Sense 1776)

Have you ever thought about why people blanket their horses in the winter?  If you question and explore this practice, you may be surprised by what you’ll learn.

Blanketing horses in the winter is a common horse keeping practice when it starts to get a little chilly outside.

Yes, you heard me right, a little chilly.

During the first onset of colder weather I notice many horses with their flashy blankets on.  Since I live in the middle of one of the larger horse areas in the country, I don’t have to drive far before I spot one or two horses like this.

Could Drastic Changes in Barometric Pressure Affect Your Horse?

December 29, 2009 by Stephanie Krahl

Post image for Could Drastic Changes in Barometric Pressure Affect Your Horse?
During certain times of the year, dramatic weather changes can occur quickly.  One day it’s beautiful, 71 degrees and sunny, and the next day there’s a drastic 40 degree drop in the temperature.

That happened here in Texas over Christmas in 2009.  A drastic drop in the barometric pressure started to occur the day before Christmas Eve.  On Christmas Eve day a blizzard blew in bringing a heavy snow/rain and sleet mix with 45 mph winds.  For a native Texan, it was miserable.

Drastic weather changes can cause problems for both your horse and you.  When the barometer drops dramatically prior to a big storm, some horses, as well as people, can experience ill effects.

Salt for Horses – Tragic Mistakes to Avoid

December 2, 2013 by Stephanie Krahl

Equine Nutrition and Salt

Did you know that salt plays an important role in your horse’s health? Without it, life would not be possible. There are a multitude of misconceptions about feeding salt to horses – many of which I cover in the book Salt for Horses: Tragic Mistakes to Avoid.

I continue to see much confusion and misguided information floating around on this subject. That’s why I wrote this book. It seems like such a simple subject but in essence it is very misunderstood in the horse industry even by most well-established equine nutritionists who are unintentionally providing advice that’s neither healthy nor scientifically sound.

Failing to Do This for Your Horse Could Become One of Your Biggest Regrets

August 7, 2013 by Stephanie Krahl

Natural Horse Care Essentials
Have you ever had that feeling that something just wasn’t right? Then you dismissed it, blew it off, or you allowed someone else to convince you that it was nothing?

We’ve all been there. I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit. What I can tell you is every time I’ve allowed my logical mind to override “that feeling,” the outcome wasn’t good.  Each time it happened, I said to myself, “Never again!”

What happened from there? I’d do it again, and again.

Eventually (it took most of my life) I reached a point where I drew a line in the sand and said, “No more!” I finally figured out that there was one common denominator that was causing this craziness. It was my logical mind. I allowed it to rule over my intuition in every one of those situations.

The Faith of a Child

IdgieSharon’s Wonderful Idgie [1997-2010]

Here’s something different for you today.  My wonderful partner in Soulful Equine, Sharon Tousley, wanted to share this beautiful true story about faith during this holiday season.  To your enjoyment, and happy holidays, Stephanie.

Are you familiar with that feeling of doubt – that feeling many of us have had when it comes to stepping outside the norm and learning not to care what other people think?

Some of us experience it more often than others, but I’d be willing to bet that all of us have felt it at least once in our lives. It’s such a different feeling from the feeling we get when we have confidence in ourselves or in our beliefs.

Isn’t it fantastic when you feel good about your convictions on a subject … when you know without a doubt that you’re right?
