What is normal anyway?  Have you ever asked yourself that question?

Of course it depends on the context, right?  We’ll stick with the subject of horses since that’s what we all care about; however, normal versus unconventional can apply to any subject.

If you’re reading this, you’re not normal.  I hate to tell you this, but you’re not.

And I’m not normal for writing about caring about being normal.

Is being normal really all that important?  For you, it may be your bread and butter.  It helps you feel safe and comfortable, except when it comes to your horse.

Do you remember the first day a horse came into your life?  Your very own horse?  Maybe you can’t quite remember that first day because you were very young.

Do your best to think back as far as you can to a day you can remember when a horse first came into your life.  How did you feel?  Where you excited?  Scared?

It’s hard for me to remember the exact day a beautiful Shetland pony named Thunder entered my life.  What I do know is that I was about 2 years old and she loved to bite and run over me.  My mother told me that I use to run in to the house crying because of Thunder and then I’d go right back out for more.  How crazy is that?

I’m sure we’ll all agree that the majority of people like a good quote.  Sometimes it may come at just the right time when you’re in need of encouragement or when you need a bit of inspiration to help get you through hard times.

You may notice I use quotes often throughout my writing.

When I see or hear a quote I think worthy of saving, I add it to my never ending list.  Where I get my quotes will vary.  They may come from a book or article I’ve read or from a seminar I’ve attended.  I always strive to extract out the essence of an author’s message or an educator’s main point.  Quotes help me to do this in more ways than one.

Gentle Persuasion – A Review of Spursuader

A wonderful person named Linda Hauck contacted me about a product she created called Spursuader™ and kindly asked if I’d  be interested in trying it out.

Although Linda and I had only conversed via email, I immediately felt that she’s a kind person who genuinely cares about a horse’s well-being.

I mentioned to Linda that I may have a slightly different opinion on spurs than she does, and that I believe the use of spurs is often abused and misunderstood.  That doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in using them.  When it’s time to take your horse to higher levels of communication, then yes, they’re helpful.

How do you feel when you’re micro-managed?  Do you feel inadequate?  Does it cause you to get angry?  Maybe you freeze and it causes your brain not to respond.

Since you know you’re a smart, talented and creative person, why on earth would someone want to micro-manage you? You’ve never given them a reason to.

Due to this situation, you have little or no trust or respect for the micro-manager; therefore you may decide to not put in as much effort.  Why should you?  You’re just going to be micro-managed … right?
